According to the calendar spring is technically here, although if you looked outside you wouldn't know it. Regardless of the current weather situation, I am trying to prep for spring and pull myself out of the winter slump. Spring and chicks go hand in hand, and I have an order of twelve pullets due to arrive from My Pet Chicken on April 18th, sixty five meat chicks on the 20th, as well as a pair of goslings. But in true "go big or go home" fashion, that just doesn't seem to be enough. I have the incubating itch, and the fertile eggs collected from the nesting boxes daily are a constant reminder, taunting me everyday. So, I finally decided that I was going to try my hand at it because I have the land, eggs, and access to an incubator with nothing to lose. I borrowed a friend's Little Giant Still Air Incubator and decided that I would lock them in on March 27th, timing them to hatch just before the mail order chicks arrive and I could raise them together.
