I am a bit of a self proclaimed "chicken lady", or as my husband calls me "the chicken whisperer". I have had laying hens now for about five years and I love it. Aside from the fact that I could eat eggs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (and believe me it's not unheard of), there is nothing like taking care of an animal and having it feed you in return.
After several months of thinking about doing it, and talking about thinking about doing it, I finally decided to start a blog. Between my cooking, gardening, canning, freezing, raising chickens, and general husbandry; my mother told me I had too much knowledge not to share it.
I'm a big fan of reading blogs myself- and will turn to them as a resource when I am unsure of how to make or do something. And since I am a resource for my friends and family, I thought that other people out there may benefit from some of my knowledge as well.
So what makes me so special? Well, I would have to say that for my age (26) compared to the general population, I could be considered odd. I cook everything from scratch and don't believe in pre-processed boxed/frozen/canned meals. Not a "I don't believe in it" sense where I go buy everything from overpriced earthy crunchy grocery stores because it's organic to make myself feel better. But, in the sense that the extent of my pantry as far as grocery store jarred/canned items include: sundried tomatoes, green chiles, chipotle in adobo, tomato paste, expired evaporated milk, and some crushed tomatoes for when I'm in a real pinch.
