I'm Kate St.Cyr. Frequent wearer of overalls, with a day (okayyyyy two to three) old braid in my hair, and questionable material under my fingernails. I love lard, raw milk, and old fashioned ways. I am trying to navigate and find my place in New England, and turn our antique 1700's farm into a thriving self-sufficient homestead once again.
My husband and I raise laying hens, meat chickens, turkeys, dairy goats, and pigs. In addition to raising our own organic and pastured meat, I keep extensive gardens and forage for the bountiful wild fruit available to us, and preserve it all through canning and freezing. Our goal is to be as self sufficient as possible, while restoring our neglected farmland.
While I'm not busy with my "real job" and all around farm life, I write and photograph for publications such as Grit and Countryside Magazines. Follow along on my homesteading journey for good food, useful knowledge, and some adorable animals.
